Thanksgiving

“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”  - 1 Thessalonians 5:16.  It is rare to find in Scripture the specific statement “for this is God’s will”.  So when we read “Be thankful in all circumstances” we need to pause and reflect.  Notice, it does not say “be thankful for all circumstances.”  There are situations in life that we certainly did not wish upon ourselves nor expect.  Yet, in the midst of it all, we are able to maintain a heart of gratitude.  At the core, we belong to Christ Jesus and know that nothing comes unexpectedly for Him.  He is working all things together for good for His people.  We shall count our blessings!

As we enter the final quarter of 2016, we face significant financial challenge.  We are experiencing the dual realities of economic downturn due to the drop in oil prices followed by the wildfire/evacuation/re-entry scenario.

Furthermore, we have the privilege of saying “thank you” to God by being generous in supporting those enterprises and people who help create those environments in which we may grow and serve.  Our church, a family of nations loving God together, deserves our support.  As we enter the final quarter of 2016, we face significant financial challenge.  We are experiencing the dual realities of economic downturn due to the drop in oil prices followed by the wildfire/evacuation/re-entry scenario.  Every day, I witness the wonderful hand of God on NorthLife in its capacity to bless the nations in this city of Fort McMurray.  Yet, together we need to be generous in our financial support.  We have these three months, October through December, to donate in such a way that we end this unusual year of 2016 with a strong financial base.  There are now three ways to financially support NorthLife. (1) Pre-authorized debit, a convenient and consistent way to give. (2) Offering plate as it is passed out on Sunday mornings. (3) Debit machine that is available on the premises.  Tithes and offerings enable the church to be the church both at home and abroad.  As we return some of what God has entrusted to us, we shall rise above the circumstances with a spirit of praise.
