The last of the big tippers! It was a hopeful, not-a-cloud in the sky, full sun day in the Canadian North. I had been absorbed in some tasks at my office when I noticed it was beyond lunch time. To catch a few rays and boast my metabolism, I hopped into my vehicle and headed off to one of the somewhat healthier eating establishments in town. With some accomplished tasks and the wonderful weather, I was feeling quite happy. Stepping up to the “place your order here” counter, I made my selections. At the “pay here” counter I whipped out my plastic and paid my dues. Immediately I noticed the cashier’s face broaden with a smile and a laugh. Somewhat hoping she was mistaken, she said, “Sir, could it be that you have entered your card’s pin number where the tip amount should be?” Oh my land! That was the largest tip I have ever given to anyone! The tip exceeded the cost of the food many times over! With a laugh she opened the cash register and returned to me plenty of bills to correct my mistake. By the way, I thanked her for her alertness and left a significant tip for her honesty!
Consider some of the gifts of God: life, family, friends, enjoyments, laughter, sunsets. He says, “Keep the tip”!
It seems to me, however, that the biggest tipper of all is God Himself! He is more than generous. James, the half-brother of Jesus, wrote, “Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens.” (James 1:17). The writer of the Psalms sang, “The LORD is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all His creation.” (Psalm 145:9). Consider some of the gifts of God: life, family, friends, enjoyments, laughter, sunsets. He says, “Keep the tip”!
