Just a Coincidence?

A few years ago my wife and I had the privilege of spending some time in Beirut, Lebanon where I was ministering with some Christian leaders.  On one particular day we travelled about ninety kilometers northeast of Beirut along the fertile Bekaa Valley.  Our destination was the town of Baalbek which boasts one of the world’s most amazing archeological sites of ancient Phoenician and Roman ruins.  We both loved our time in this country, including the delicious Lebanese food!

Recently, I was sitting and eating at one of the tables with some of the patrons who stop by for a delicious meal that our church daily provides.  I asked the man to the right of me where he was from.  To my delight, he said “Lebanon.”  As we chatted further it turned out that his home town in Lebanon was very near Baalbek in the Bekaa Valley.  We then had a great chat and got to know each other better.  What a welcomed coincidence.

God is everywhere present and if we have eyes to see and hearts to believe we could perceive His ability to quietly orchestrate coincidences for our benefit.

It has been said that coincidences are those times in which God chooses to remain anonymous.  In other words, there are occasions when we have those moments of encounter in which we think, “Wasn’t that interesting!”  Imagine meeting that stranger right then, right there!  Or at times, “Wasn’t it amazing that, what happened just now had been on my mind for some days previous!”  God is everywhere present and if we have eyes to see and hearts to believe we could perceive His ability to quietly orchestrate coincidences for our benefit.  Let us become more alert to God at work.  That person, that situation, that gift, that word from someone just at the right time could be God reminding you that He is very present in your life.   A coincidence could be the “still small voice” of God.
