If there were no Easter….there would be no resurrection of our bodies. If there were no resurrection of our bodies...there would be no complete reunion of the saints. The body is given to death, yet the body awaits the resurrection from the state of death. Only that which dies can be resurrected. The soul never dies, so then, resurrection speaks of the physical body which one day shall die.
If Christ was not risen our faith is useless! We who are the apostles are liars! Those who died believing in Christ are lost and Christ-followers are simply those people that the world should feel sorry for!
I believe the Apostle Paul penned the most complete and concise definition of the resurrection of the body ever! The 58 verses of 1 Corinthians 15 are well worth your read especially at this season of the year. Addressing the unbelief of some in his day as to the resurrection of the human body, he set out a defense of the resurrection reality. He did not mince words. He made it clear that the gospel was two-fold: “Christ died for our sins, he was buried and he was raised from the dead on the third day” all according to the written Scriptures. Paul gets quite animated causing him to write that if there is no resurrection of our bodies, then neither was Christ risen. If Christ was not risen our faith is useless! We who are the apostles are liars! Those who died believing in Christ are lost and Christ-followers are simply those people that the world should feel sorry for! So, for Paul, the resurrection of the human bodies and particularly the resurrection of the body of Jesus, is essential truth, a given reality.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ was a miracle. We will probably never completely understand the “how” of the bringing back to life that which has died. Yet since God raised his Son on the third day, we believe that we shall also be raised, one day. Reflect on Philippians 3:20,21 “But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives…he will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.” Easter is for real!
