Jesus the great Provision

“The herd of caribou was so thick that airplanes could not land on the Snye.  For many residents (of Fort McMurray, Alberta) who relied on wild meat to sustain them…arrival of the caribou was like manna from heaven.”  So records Irwin Huberman in his book entitled, The Place We Call Home.  The year was 1951 and tens of thousands of caribou descended upon the area.  Many people went “grocery-shopping”.  All items free of charge at the meat department!

We all have a deep spiritual hunger that can only be satisfied by establishing a relationship with Jesus Christ.

The caribou were a timely provision!  An even more unusual occurrence supplied a whole wilderness of wandering people during the times of Moses, the prophet-leader.  God gave each morning “free of charge” a nutritious food which the people called “manna”.  “Manna” means “what is it?”  This food sustained several million people each day for many years.

Another happening recorded in all four Gospels is Jesus feeding a crowd of thousands of hungry people with five loaves and two fish.  Calling upon His Heavenly Father, Jesus multiplied the food to such an extent that everyone ate until they were full. With this as a background, Jesus proclaimed, “I am the bread of life.  Whoever comes to Me will never be hungry again.  Whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty.”  (John 6:35).  We all have a deep spiritual hunger that can only be satisfied by establishing a relationship with Jesus Christ.  He is the true Bread that came down from heaven to give us eternal life.  Christ, who died on the Cross as our substitute, brings deep satisfaction.  He is our life, our sustainer!

Caribou along the Athabasca and Clearwater rivers or manna in the Sinai wilderness pale in comparison to Jesus the great Provision for our never-dying souls!
